The ship actually arrived about a week ago but because of a series of computer, timing and communication problems we only managed to get an appointment to see it today. Imogen organised all the various paperwork with Customs and MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Farming). To our surprise, the MAF official went through our inventory item by [...] Beach trial No. 3 Karekare is the beach used in the movie Piano. Like the movie it is moody and lonely looking. It’s also very beautiful with cliffs jutting down to the beach on one side and a group of cragy rocks on the other side. So much cinematic potential! No swimming today. Not [...] Second beach in our tour. Bethells is a spread out, expansive beach with a cool looking watch tower and a cafe!! Open 10-5. The day was pretty much like the Piha day but Oli braved the weather and went in for a bit of body surfing. Even the locals thought he was brave! Went home [...] On our Easter break we went down to Windy Wellington to see Imogen’s parents. We went the less direct route via Wanganui which took us through the national park called ‘National Park’ (these kiwis). On the way we saw mount Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu (really impressive, will try to [...] Piha is on the West Coast. The sand on the beach is black. The surf is wild. It is a typical New Zealand scene. We went to Piha on a typical NZ day… Left the house. It was spitting. Had been driving for about half an hour when the heavens opened.
